How To Make Cannabis Tincture Fast

 What is cannabis alcohol?

Cannabis alcohol is an alcoholic cannabis extract - basically: marijuana alcohol. In fact, tincture was the main form of cannabis medicine until the United States enacted a ban on cannabis. They are a great starting point for both recreational and medical consumers who want easy access to smoke-free methods of consumption.

A cannabis tincture is an alcoholic cannabis concentrate. This concentrate is usually stored in a small bottle with a dropper. This is to ensure accuracy when dosing. Cannabis infused tinctures can be taken orally, or they can be used to create cannabis sugar and beverages. A busy schedule doesn’t always allow for a full cannabis extraction process. Like a ready-made meal, this is a quick and easy way to make a medicinal tincture extraction.

If you don't have a fully equipped kitchen or just like simple, clutter-free preparation techniques, cannabis tincture is a great DIY project. You can make alcohol with jars, alcohol, sieves, and marijuana. That's all you need!

 - Choose the right alcohol for the tincture

The goal is to find alcohol that is highly alcohol resistant and safe to consume. The higher the alcohol concentration, the better the cannabis resin will dissolve. Everclear is my choice when it comes to making tincture, as it is both safe for consumption and powerful.

Products like isopropyl alcohol don't get used and never be used when making tincture - save to clean your pipes!

Using Ethanol rice alcohol with a concentration of 45 - 50 degrees is also a good alternative to tincture.

1 / The last cannabis wine recipe you need to try

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 3 hours

Equipment
  • 1/2 pt or 240 ml glass Mason jar with tight-fighting lid
  • 1/2 pt or 240 ml dark glass jar and lid for storage
  • Fine strainer or mesh cloth
Ingredients
  • 7 grams Decarboxylated cannabis or 1/4 oz
  • 158 grams 151-proof (or any) alcohol or 3/4 cup
Instructions
  1. Add the cannabis and alcohol together in a mason jar. Secure the lid and lightly swirl for a good stir. Place in freezer (see note below).
  2. Freeze the jar for 1hr minimum (we prefer 3hrs), removing once or twice to lightly shake and mix the contents.
  3. Place the strainer and cheese tightly cloth over bowl or jar. Pour the tincture mixture over the strainer, using rubber spatula to get all the particles out of the jar.
  4. Press the spatula or spoon against the mixture to push out all the alcohol. Give the cheesecloth a good squeeze into the jar.
  5. Transfer to dark jar (if you haven’t already), date and store in cool place. See below note.
Notes
Step 1. Freezing the mixture helps limit the chance that chlorophyll will leach into your tincture creating a purer and cleaner taste

Step 5. Dark jar helps to preserve the mixture. Keeps the light from aging and degrading the herbal contents.

2/ CANNABIS TINCTURE: A QUICK AND EASY GUIDE
Prep Time: 30 minutesCook Time: 30 minutesTotal Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

  • Ounce Cannabis decarbed
  • 2 Cups Everclear (or other high proof alcohol)

Instructions

  1. Place the decarbed cannabis in a plastic bucket
  2. Crush the plant material using a stick of clean, untreated wood or any other similar device.
  3. Continue to crush the cannabis, while adding 1 cup everclear until the plant material is completely covered and soaked. Stir the mixture for about three minutes. As you stir the mixture, the cannabinoids will begin dissolving off the plant into the solvent.
  4. Strain the solvent mixture into another bucket. At this point, you have stripped the material of about 80% of its THC.
  5. Repeat this process for the second wash. Again add 1 cup everclear to the plant material and work for another three minutes to extract the remaining THC.
  6. Strain this new solvent mix into the bucket containing the first mix that was previously separated.
  7. Discard the twice washed plant material.
  8. Pour the solvent mixture through a coffee filter into a clean container.
  9. Boil the solvent off in a safe environment. A rice cooker will boil the solvent off nicely. CAUTION: the solvent is flammable and the vapors toxic. Avoid stove-tops, red-hot elements, sparks, cigarettes, and open flames as the fumes can be extremely dangerous.
  10. Add solvent to rice cooker and turn on heat. Make sure you are in a well-ventilated area and set up a fan to carry the solvent fumes away. If you can complete this step outside.
  11. Continue to add mixture to cooker as the solvent evaporates until you have added it all to the cooker.
  12. Continue to reduce the liquid until you have roughly 1 cup liquid left.
  13. Place in a container or jar and let stand for at least 24 hours.
